Apply for Financial Aid: Traditional Students
Applying for financial aid is a four-step process for most students. Once you complete the applications below, the Financial Aid Office will have the necessary information to begin the financial aid awarding process.
- Apply for a personal identification number (PIN) for the student and the parent/guardian.
- Gather the necessary documents to complete the FAFSA.
- Complete the FAFSA, then sign it electronically with the student and parent/guardian PINs.
- Submit the FAFSA for processing.
- Create a username and password.
- Click on "Apply for Aid."
- Click on "Grants and Scholarships."
- Complete the application for the GTEG/HOPE for private colleges.

What is Verification?
Verification
is a process the Federal Processing Center uses to make sure that the
information applicants reported is accurate. This prevents ineligible
students from receiving aid by reporting false information, and ensures
eligible students receive all of the aid they are qualified for.
Each
year, the Federal Processing Center selects a group of applications for
verification. Some of these applications are selected because of FAFSA
information that is inconsistent with information elsewhere on the
application; others are chosen at random.
In any case, a student
whose application is selected must give his or her financial aid office
certain documentation to show his or her application information is
correct. The sooner you submit the requested documents the sooner you'll
be able to receive financial aid.
What will I need to do to complete
the verification process?
A student selected for verification must
submit the following items to the Financial Aid Office:
- A signed copy of parents'/guardians' 2009 federal tax return
(dependent students only);
- A signed copy of the student's 2009 federal tax return (only if the
student filed taxes); and
- A completed 2010-11 Verification Worksheet (dependent or independent
worksheet; see links at the top of this page).
E-mail or fax (404-460-2477) the tax information and
Verification Worksheet to the Financial Aid Office.
Once you have received your award letter from the Financial Aid Office, complete step 4 by visiting the ACC Financial Aid Portal.
If you have any questions about this process, please feel free to
contact the Financial Aid Office.
