Additional Information for Adult Students
Types of Financial Aid
There are various types
of financial aid available to you as a student. You may be eligible for
some or all of the financial aid programs listed below.
Loans
Student loan programs provide long-term,
low-interest loans for students. Students must enroll in at least 6
credit hours each semester in order to qualify for student loans. All
loans must be repaid. There are several types of loans available,
including federal loans such as Stafford Loans, Parent PLUS Loans, and
need-based Perkins Loans.
Grants
Grants, unlike loans, do not need to be repaid. Students who demonstrate
appropriate financial need may be eligible for federal grants, such as
the Pell Grant and the Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity
Grant. Georgia residents are eligible for the Georgia Tuition
Equalization Grant.
Work-Study
The Federal Work-Study Program
provides students with part-time employment to assist with educational
and living expenses. Eligibility for this program is dependent upon
financial need and available funds. Students can work on
campus, and consideration will be given to the student's course
schedule. Students must complete a FAFSA to be eligible.
Scholarships
Private scholarships are also available from thousands of
organizations and foundations, both corporate and nonprofit. Many are
awarded based on a student's ethnic or religious background. A
customizable online scholarship search like FastWeb is the best way to find these
types of scholarships.
Georgia residents with a high school GPA of 3.0 or higher may be eligible for the HOPE Scholarship. The 3.0 GPA must be maintained
throughout college in order to keep the scholarship.
